local produce

At Westview we like to use local produce and support the local economy

Mid Wales and the Brecon Beacons are full of top quality suppliers that are passionate about the goods they produce whether it be crafts or food, you don't have to go far to find everything you need. By choosing locally produced we are able to do our bit to reduce delivery miles especially for food we serve at our bed and breakfast. Our traditional breakfast showcases some of the wonderful local ingredients that we are privileged to cook with. Our eggs come from our neighbour so from our balcony or garden you can actually see where they come from and that are truly free range in every sense. The food miles for our eggs don't really exist. Our sausages and bacon are produced on local farms only a couple of miles from Westview

Guesthouse by farmers who really care about both the food on the plate and the animal welfare. Much of the art displayed in the house is produced by local artists and we are actively involved in the local community. After a good hearty breakfast you can leave the B&B to explore the local area, there are many craft and small suppliers in Hay-on-Wye and along the Wye Valley to visit from textiles to wood turning, books to art galleries, there is something for everyone and the warm feeling of supporting local people. Whilst out and about there many top quality pubs, restaurants, and cafes to stop at and enjoy some great Welsh hospitality before returning to your home from home at our B&B.

Local suppliers

Tony - Eggs
Our eggs come from our neighbour. The hens are free range in the real sense and can be seen scratching around, so these are really fresh eggs with a wonderful taste.

Sue Cooke, Minfield Farm - Sausages and black pudding
These award winning sausages are made from pedigree rare bred pigs and made on the farm. They are lovely meaty and full of succulent flavour, fully traceable and very few food miles. Minfield Farm is perched on the hillside with sweeping views of the Brecon Beacons.

Glaisfer Uchaf Farm - Bacon
All prepared on the farm this dry cured bacon has a deep rich taste that is thick cut and gives a full flavoured bite. The best bacon for our bed and breakfast we found, after much searching.

Bread, Marmalade and Jams
We bake our own bread fresh each day and make our own marmalade and jams. Along with the standard offering we try to produce something different as well so expect to see speciality bread and marmalades, we currently have a pineapple marmalade, delicious. All served with Welsh butter.

Local eating and drinking

From simple and hearty pub grub to michelin fine dining you are sure to find what you are looking for close to our B&B. Our local, the Radnor Arms, serves great food from a blackboard menu in this very old inn, what's more it is in walking distance just at the bottom of the village. Hay-on-Wye offers numerous options for eating and drinking, great coffee at Shepherds or refined dining at the Black Lion. We can always suggest somewhere and book ahead for you.

Farmers markets and the local economy

Farmers markets are a great way find out about the local economy of mid Wales and support the local farmers. Farming is a major industry in Mid Wales and produces the best lamb in the world in our opinion. A visit to a local market can introduce you a wealth of ideas and make you look at food differently. You see the produce and meet the people that make it so delicious. Craft stalls showcase a wide variety of local skills and talent. Whilst farming and tourism are a major part of the areas economy there are many other cutting edge projects.
